Yet another post about new products – sorry it’s all I seem to talk about these days! We’ve just taken stock of a new range of coffee makers and accessories from Hario.

For those of you who’ve not heard of Hario, they’re a Japanese company with a growing reputation, here in the Western Hemisphere, among the coffee community. Their V60 Coffee Dripper is probably now the most popular pour over coffee maker on the market and is commonly seen in many independent coffee shops. So we’re very please to be selling these now.

We’re also stocking the V60 Drip Decanter (looks a bit like a Chemex), which is a clever little product combining a V60 dripper with a glass carafe. Now when you make coffee to share, you don’t have to worry about finding something suitable to catch the brewed coffee in. Of course neither of these products would be much use without the paper filters – so naturally we have these too.

Due to the imminent price increases by Royal Mail our shipping rates will be changing from Monday 30 April.

The table below shows our new charges based on the total weight of an order.

Total Weight

Shipping Cost

Up to 750g

£2.65

Between 750g to 1kg

£3.95

Over 1kg

£4.95

Over £35

Free Delivery

Items which qualify at ‘Large Letter’ rates such as washer & filter sets and tamping mats with cost £0.85

Whilst we’ve tried to minimise the effect of the price increases, unfortunately because of the re-banding of all ‘Packets’ under 750g into just one group, some items will see a significantly higher shipping price. For example: the filter baskets, which currently cost £1.50 to ship will increase to £2.65. However, some items will actually benefit from the re-banding such as the Bialetti Moka Express 3 Cup, which at present is £3.30, but will decrease to £2.65 from Monday.

All orders over £35 will still qualify for free delivery.

Cafetiere, or if you prefer, french press coffee makers have been in the news a bit lately. Douwe Egberts recently published a survey revealing that, even though the average Briton spend £15,000 in a lifetime in coffee shops, a staggering 75% don’t use a cafetiere: 38% owned one but avoided using it as they thought they were too complicated; whilst another 37% per cent didn’t even know how to use one.

And yet only last week, Howard Schultz (CEO of Starbucks) told Business Week that using a french press you can…“have the best cup of coffee known to mankind”.

So to help our mighty nation of former tea drinkers out and show them what they’re missing, we’ve updated our brewing guide to cafetieres: we’ve improved the layout, added a handy diagram and also a fine-tuning section. We hope you like it.

After a bit of practice you’ll soon be able see whether Schultz is right: that a cup of home-brewed french press coffee really is better than a cappuccino at erm…Starbucks.

Each set contains a beautifully crafted tamper, to ensure you get the most out of your coffee grounds, as well as a stand to tamp on, protecting both your worktop and portafilter. The stand comes on a cleverly designed mat, with two special indentations, one to store the tamper on and one for a teaspoon.

The actual Hybrid machine looks just like a Domepod one – the brewing chambers are nearly identical. The only major difference is the Hybrid comes with a special E.S.E. adapter, which you insert into the brewing chamber when (you’ve guest it) you use E.S.E. pods.
